Do you allow your customers to store their goods without insurance?
While the Standard Self Storage Agreement (SSSA) does provide protection from claims, it does not remove your liability entirely. Should there be an unfortunate incident at your facility, the burden of proof is on the customer to prove that it was the facility’s action or inaction that contributed to their loss.
Every customer storing at your facility needs to understand and accept the Standard Self Storage Agreement, and must be made aware of specific aspects of the agreement including the terms;
- Goods are stored at your sole risk. You should take out insurance cover.
- The facility owner is not liable for the loss of any goods stored on its premises, unless caused by negligence.
