Why do Occupational Therapists need insurance?
As an Occupational Therapist, your treatment has the power to change lives. It’s likely your patients went through some dark hours before seeking your advice. However, one unhappy client, or a severe weather event damaging your premises, could very quickly bring darkness to your own life if you’re not prepared for the financial consequences of such events. It’s therefore important you protect your practice with adequate insurance to help make sure you can recover financially if you are suddenly faced with a professional negligence lawsuit or suddenly unable to operate your business due to a weather event.
For some of your clients, you’ve turned ‘can’t’ into ‘can’, and made possible what first appeared impossible. But when you’re performing such a delicate service, the possibility of a client alleging your service impacted them negatively is a very real one, and one you’d want to be insured for. Even if your clients are 100% happy, claims of public liability and events such as fires and storms can have a huge impact on your ability to keep operating.
Having insurance cover in place can help make sure you don’t find yourself inundated with out of pocket costs in defending claims, or needing to find cash to replace your office equipment.
Aon is the approved insurance broker for Occupational Therapy Australia (OTA) members. As sector experts, we have worked with OTA to listen to the needs of Occupational Therapists and negotiated with insurers to develop to cover that is easy to understand.
