Tailored insurance for Occupational Therapists
Occupational Therapy insurance includes both Professional Indemnity and Public Liability in one policy.
Why do Occupational Therapists need Professional Indemnity insurance?
Helping your clients develop, recover and improve their lives is all in a day’s work for and Occupational Therapist. You’re in this business to give your clients the opportunity to live to their full potential and make the most of their lives, and most of the time this is the case. But there’s a risk that one of your client’s making a claim that you made a pre-existing condition worse or that you impacted their life in a negative way. If this happens, you could be held liable and made to pay damages.
Occupational Therapy Indemnity insurance includes cover from malpractice, breach of duty, professional misconduct, professional negligence, and mistakes or omissions claims made against you. A well-chosen policy will also cover legal defence costs, obtained with the Insurer’s prior consent.
If you’re practising, you need Professional Indemnity insurance arrangements in place that meet the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia standard.1
Why do Occupational Therapists need Public Liability insurance?
You could be on your way out the door of your business and on the way to see your client Jono, and you only have 10 minutes to get to the appointment, but Jono is 12 minutes away. What do you do? You leg it! Parkouring through the city streets, someone steps in front of you just before you’re about to run up the wall, the person goes flying backward and lands in a pile of dog poop. That person could make a claim against you and your business for damage to their clothes from the dog droppings and any bodily injuries they claim that you caused. The proverbial happens, you can’t avoid it, but you can cover yourself against it.
Occupational Therapy Liability insurance provides cover for legal liabilities if a member of the public makes a claim that they were injured, or damage was caused to their property because of your business dealings or on your premises.
